Yesterday afternoon I picked up my red headed step child aka the teenagers’ best friend, picked the teenager up from school, and dropped them both off for their very 1st day of driving school!!
Out here they break it up into 2 classes; the girls took the classroom class over the summer and passed.
Now it’s time for the ON THE ROAD class!
The weather was rainy and gloomy so that made the girls a tad bit more nervous but they were ready!
I snapped this picture right before I left…
3 hours later I wait patiently for her to be dropped off at the school PTF, anxious to hear all about her class.
As I stood talking to her teacher I saw her come in and immediately sit down- I don’t think she noticed me. I moved out of the crowd and touched her arm- she ran up to me. I turned to ask her how things went and could see the upset in her face. I asked her what happened, she relied “Mommy I didn’t do good…. at all.”
I pulled her aside, reminded her that it was her first day and told her to tell me what happened.
“Mom, I kept asking stupid questions, stupid questions and kept doing stupid things! I don’t know what was wrong with me!” she sadly said.
I told her that no question was stupid when she interrupted me and said…
“MOM…when I was driving I kept messing up! He told me to brake, I accelerated. I took my turns to fast. I didn’t do hand over hand when coming out of a turn and then…then he told me to stop, put the car in park, pop the trunk and get out. As I was about to get out I turned and asked…….you want me to get in the trunk? I asked if he wanted me to get in the trunk, Mom!!”
(speechless)
What is a mother suppose to say after she is told that her brilliant daughter asked the drivers ed teacher if she should get in the trunk!?
I looked at her confused, let out a chuckle and asked, “Do what?! Why? What in the world?! The trunk? Are you for real!?”
“Mom, I was so nervous, I don’t know why I said that…I thought he was mad at how bad I was doing….I just couldn’t think straight.” she replied with a look of sheer disappointment.
Apparently the cones were in the trunk and he needed to get them out.
Later I called to see how my red headed step child felt about the class. She said that she was nervous but after getting in the neighborhoods she felt fine. I then asked her about the trunk incident to which she replied, “Miss Melissa, I couldn’t believe she asked him that…the whole car got completely silent and after she got out I got in the driver seat and sat there for a minute and then turned around and asked her if she was joking? She wasn’t, and then the drivers ed guy just said that he wasn’t saying a thing…..moving on.”
Aside from the fact my daughter felt she did so badly that she needed to be put in a trunk, they said the class went alright and they are looking forward to day #2, today!
*Report cards were given last night at PTF and both kids got A/B Honor roll!
